Check if your text fits 160 characters (SMS / meta description)
About 24–28 English words. Short, common words give you more words per 160 characters than long technical terms, so the figure is a guide rather than an exact rule.
160 characters is the single-segment SMS limit: a text longer than 160 characters is split into multiple messages (and may cost more to send). It's also the desktop meta-description length Google usually shows before cutting off with an ellipsis, so staying under 160 keeps both an SMS as one message and a meta description fully visible.
Need a different limit? Use 60 characters for SEO titles, 150 characters for Instagram bios, 250 characters for short answers, 300 characters for business descriptions, 500 characters for personal statements, or 1000 characters for cover letters. For tweets use the 280-character Twitter counter, and for arbitrary text the main character counter shows characters, words, and reading time.
